XII- Jesus Dies

We adore you O Christ and we praise you. For by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. 

"For surely this man was the Son of God." 

The man who said those words would have seen death daily. He was an executioner, someone who made his living torturing and killing people. He would have had to been an expert at dehuminization, at distancing himself from the reality of what was going on, just to be able to maintain some semblance of sanity.  

What was it about executing Jesus that broke through this man's shield? What was it about Him that made this man see Him as a person, let alone "The Son of God"? 

"Love" is the knee jerk answer.  But what was it that made that love visible and understandable to a man hardened by military service, in a strange land, surrounded by a strange religion and culture? 

It seems something worth considering.
